Legal English

Legal English is an advanced course (B2/C1) designed for lawyers and those who wish to improve the English language in the field of law. The course covers all branches of law, specialized terms, and proper writing etiquette as it applies to law. More specifically, the instructor will lead discussions on the differences in various legal systems, e.g., common and civil law, and the differences within each system individually. Students will also be exposed to current world legal debates. Finally, students will be put through various situations and conditions to test their use of proper Legal English in both formal and informal settings

All courses are taught by native speakers, which allows students to speak exclusively in English. Further, all of our classes meet in small groups (3 to 5 students). This allows each individual more time to speak in class, while allowing the teacher to focus on their specific needs.

The course lasts 15 weeks, and meets twice weekly in 60-minute intervals.

Fall semester courses begin on 9.10.2017, and finish on 10.02.2018. There will be no classes between 19.12.2017 and 07.01.2018.

Spring semester courses begin on 19.02.2018 and finish on 15.06.2018. There will be no classes between 28.03. and 05.04.2018, and on the days 01.05 and 31.05.2018.

Business English

This course is designed for students seeking to advance professionally in the business world. Students are expected to have a B2/C1 level of English prior to enrollment. The course focuses not only on the terminology used in different sectors (accounting, marketing, business development, etc.) but as well on daily communication with business partners. As such, the instructors give extra focus to business letter writing and presentation skills. Conversation is focused both on “big ideas” in the business world, as well as formal vs. informal speech, and the stories of the day.

Classes last for 15 weeks, with lessons held twice weekly in 60-minute intervals.

Presentation Skills

This workshop is intended for those who in university or the business world who would like to build confidence in their public speaking and leave a lasting impression. The workshop teaches you how to make the best possible (academic or business) presentation, beginning with the fundamentals of speech. Further along, students will learn to how to develop structure, introduce high quality content, and speak with clarity. Further, as this is a workshop, students will regularly practice their craft in front of other students, and learn the delicate art of deflection during Q and A sessions. Most importantly, this workshop provides you with a positive environment, such that the main aim – confidence building – is achieved.

The workshop lasts for 5 weeks, with classes held once per week in 90-minute intervals.

Academic Writing

This workshop for advanced students focuses on written English, with an emphasis on scientific essays, business report writing, and Op/Eds. Students should be aware that this course is not designed to improve one’s English, but rather his or her writing skills, which may be applied to any language. As such, students will spend the bulk of their time working on structure, transition, the organization of simple and complex sentences, and punctuation and presentation. Further, students will graduate knowing full well the “do’s and don’ts” when translating from Croatian to English.

All courses are taught by native speakers, which allows students to speak exclusively in English. Further, all of our classes meet in small groups (3 to 5 students). This allows each individual more time to speak in class, while allowing the teacher to focus on their specific needs.

The workshop lasts for 10 weeks, with classes held once per week in 90-minute intervals.

 

English Grammar

Maybe it’s been a while since you actively learned English grammar? Or maybe you picked up English watching The Wire?

This workshop is intended for students with a higher level of English language communication skills, yet who lack the confidence in their knowledge of English grammar. As such, this course takes on a new grammar topic each week – from present simple vs. continuous to mixed conditionals and everything in between. The overall goal is to help students break their bad habits and feel more confident in the speech.

English for the EU

English for the EU is an advanced course designed for students with a background in international relations, political science, law, or economics, or for those interested in or seeking work within the institutions of the European Union. This course covers briefly the history of the EU, its structure, institutions, and policy, and European law. The course will surely provide you with the basics for the EPSO testing. The course is taught by a university lecturer with a background in political science.
